Modification Monday: Miss Winter Sailor Dress

Original Pattern: Miss Winter Sailor Sweater

Knitter Extraordinaire: Randi (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Randi adjusted the neckline to make it more of a crew neck, and the underarms for a better fit, as well as lengthening the sweater to turn it into a dress. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I’m utterly smitten with this dress – the tweed, the stripes, and great length – it’s so wearable. Even though I am not  dress person, I obsess over sweater dresses. they just look like the epitome of comfy, cozy, pretty winter dressing.  Randi’s decision to take a sweater pattern  and lengthen it to her ideal dress was smart- she had the yarn for it, and it was a top down pattern so she could try it on as she went.

The neckline looks fantastic, too- not only does the crew neck suit her, I really like the deeper ribbing. If you have been craving a sweater dress, why not take a top down sweater pattern that you love, and lengthen it? Worst case scenario, you try it on and it doesn’t look right, you can rip it back to a sweater length. Best case scenario, you too could have a picture perfect dress like this one!

Very cute! I love the tweedy effect, and the color. A nice take on the classic sailor sweater.

I love the tweediness of the yarn and oh boy the color is lovely. How patient she was to knit this length and I look at all the stripes and think, oh boy, the ends!

I so love tweedy yarns, too!! They are my winter fave. I try not to think about te woven in ends… or maybe she wove them in as she went?

And you look so beautiful in your summer knitted dress, too!!

  6. I always want to wear sweater dresses but have yet to find one (store bought) that doesn’t cling in all the wrong places. I don’t have the most ideal figure for them, I guess.

I do like this one and it makes me jealous that it wouldn’t work for me. Talent, nonetheless.

I know what you mean about sweater dresses often clinging in all the wrong places, but that is no doubt because so many of them are snug on the lower half! I bet if you knit a sweater and went for more of an a line you’d enjoy it. However, ti would no doubt take forever to knit! This is the same reason why I have knit a dress yet, either. I keep saying one day, though!
