Modification Monday: Morvarch

A long weekend means even though it’s technically Tuesday, it feels like a Monday! 😉

Original Patterns: Morvarch and Korrigan

Knitter Extraordinaire: Johanna (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Changed the gauge to a heavier weight,  changed the rectangular shawl to a square baby blanket, added cables at the corners from the Korrigan pattern. Project page can be found here.

What Makes This Awesome: Johanna decided that the beautiful cabled shawl pattern would make an amazing square shaped baby blanket, but would need to make adjustments for the corners. Using the cables from the yoke of Korrigan, and using the central motif of Morvarch, Johanna was able to create this stunning cabled blanket full of Celtic style. Such a beautiful knit, and the texture is incredible!

Beautiful! What is the yarn and color? It says Drops Baby merino in gray but it is green?

      Hi Di,

I double checked the with knitter, that is the yarn used- but she had a friend overdye it. So it’s a custom yarn dye!

    I’ve started Morvarch…..I don’t know when I’ll ever finish it but it’s a gorgeous pattern on it’s own 🙂

Those cables look so amazing, but it definitely looks like a knit you have to focus on, not mindless tv knitting! Good luck with your Movarch!

Truly blog worthy! Lucy’s patterns turn patient knitters into extraordinary knitters but doing a mod with two Celtic cable on both sides of the project designs?! Amazing. This baby has no idea the amount of love and awesomeness it is being wrapped in.

You are so right, Snow! Talk about one lucky little baby. That blanket will definitely be an heirloom.

What a lovely FO this blanket came out to be after merging both patterns. I like that green. I j ust finished watching the second podcast of Espace Tricot and they were all about it’s okay to substitute yarns or change parts of the pattern to what you like. This is a good example of what Melissa and Lisa were saying.

SO true- I substitute yarn quite a bit, and I find as long as you swatch, you can usually get a good result. Have you seen It’s a good resource for substituting yarns.
