Pin Ups and Link Love: My Favourite Things This Week

My Favourite Articles and Links This Week

Have you heard that Cape Breton, a stunning island on the east coast of Canada, is offering refuge to Americans if Trump gets elected. It’s not a joke- despite being an unbelievably beautiful island, the population has been leaving for the mainland for more jobs for a while , so they are looking to get more people living there. So ideal if you work from home, I guess! Their campaign almost seems like a joke, but they are completely serious.

I loved this essay about how no matter decisions we make in life and how that alters the course, we tend to think wistfully about what others have. And then we judge their decisions against our own.

A rocket scientist’s advice on how to do impossible things.

Here are 8 creative skills you can learn in a weekend. Links to free guides for each are included! I totally want to learn to draw. Not super artistically, just to to be able to draw cartoon cats for Lila, that sort of thing.

This weekend is actually our 7th wedding anniversary, can you believe it? It sort of caught us be surprise, so we aren’t sure what our plans are yet. Might try to go a movie, since I don’t think I’ve stepped foot inside a movie theater in over a year… there was a time in my life when I went to the movies every week, and was up to date on everything! Now I find myself watching the Oscars and thinking, “Who’s that?” Oh well.

Thanks again for all the thoughtful links- I can’t wait to delve into them.
I hear you about the Oscars and not keeping up. I hadn’t even heard of a few of the main movies and couldn’t place a few of the newcomers on the red carpet. Ah well, such is life. Sometimes things get in the way. However, I will be seeing Tina Fey in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot tomorrow and I’m quite excited!
Hope you have a lovely anniversary doing something for yourselves!

Thank you for the links – saving them for a Saturday morning read! And happy anniversary! 7 years! Wow! And I know what you mean about Oscars 🙂 I recognized just a few people there! And I haven’t been to movies in years! I am just not really into what is popular right now…

Great links, and oh yes, I so want to learn how to paint watercolours too. In fact, I have a painting kit and paper but never took the time to learn properly. And your last paragraph totally resonates: I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been in a movie house for the past ten years, when I used to go three or four times a week as a student. Instead I’m a very good client of my local video store.
Happy anniversary ! Enjoy your time together, whatever your plans are.

I recently had this moment where I was watching Entertainment Tonight and I realized that I didn’t know most of the people/movies/artists/tv shows that they were talking about. As a teen I remember thinking that my dad was so clueless because he honestly had no idea who Britney Spears was and I couldn’t imagine ever being in a place in my life where I didn’t care about pop culture. Not that I was especially in to Britney Spears, but how he could not even recognize the name floored me.

Not exactly the same thing as missing out on quality movies, but still. Right now I think it’s kinda cool to be so wrapped up with “real life”. It’s better than the movies. 😉

The rocket scientist article and the “don’t fear the dark room” could not have come at a more better time (also, I’m not sure if “more better” is the right way to say that, but I’m stickin’ with it!). It’s perfect! And I’ve seen the island that wants everyone to move there if Trump wins…and I’d love to do that, ha. Really, no matter who wins the presidency, we’re all gonna want to move to Canada 😉
And happy anniversary to you and your Mister! 🙂

As an American, I cannot tell you how MUCH I love Cape Breton’s offer; if Drumpf (that is actually his REAL last name, so can everybody please start using it??) gets elected it is definitely time to leave this country. It’s truly a huge embarrassment; yes, MOST Americans do realize he makes us the laughingstock of the world. sigh.
I love the watercolor roses, as well as the link to learn some new artistic/crafty skills in a weekend – I hope I get the chance to try something.
Happy anniversary to you!! In recent years, we also rarely get to a movie, and are usually stuck waiting until they come out on Netflix, but I saw 3 of the Oscar winners this year (wow!) and they were all really great, though vastly different from each other: Spotlight, Bridge of Spies, and Inside Out – I highly recommend any of them for a night out! 🙂

Happy anniversary! That tutorial on toe-up socks looks interesting. I’ve never knit toe-up before, so besides a connection to the north, you and I have something in common! Those knitted flowers are adorable.
(By the way, the shrinking mini-stockings was my computer. I think it was possessed for a time)
As for Trump…aren’t you glad we’re Canadian?

Here I am on repeat again- but you seriously find the best links.

Being a foodie, I am always in love with your choices and they often go into my recipe book. Especially the one dish chicken recipe.

I have tried toe up socks but usually stick to my basic top down, now after seeing these deep pocket toes I think I need to try them!

    Wonderful links, love.

    Love the wee Easter cuties.
    Not knitted but worth mentioning:
    Benedict Cumberbunnies.
    Chocolate.Benedict.
    Yes it’s really a thing.
Happy Anniversary. How wonderful to have cocreated a relationship, family, partnership, friendship that has spanned so many years. Wishing you many more wonderful years together.
Dress up fancy like you cherish each other and want to show the world-and go dancing, stay out late, have breakfast before you get home.

Happy anniversary! Can’t believe it had been 7 years already.. Time do fly! That honey garlic roast chicken looks perfect! And the Cape Breton point made me laugh out loud. XD Thanks for the laughs and links. <3

Wouldn’t it be something if Americans really did move to Cape Breton for that reason. Cape Breton is so beautiful; they’d be coming to a wonderful place. Meanwhile, I always enjoy your weekly ‘finds’ so thanks for sharing. I too will be trying those brownies.
