My Favourite Articles and Links This Week
Wish you could read more, but feel like you’re just too busy? How busy people make time to read, and how you can too.Â
The dangers of being too hard on yourself. And it’s so hard to stop, isn’t it? We are gentle with our friends and family, but when it comes to ourselves, it’s a different story.
Part of that is, of course, trying to make things perfect. Let’s not wait for perfect.
If you are a Game of Thrones fan, then you are going to love this round up of allllll the Game of Thrones-themed knitting patterns.
Have cats? Love wine? Think your cats should love wine, too? Well, someone has finally created catnip-based ‘wine’, that is specifically for cats. Because you don’t want to drink alone, even if you are the only human in the house.
My Favourite Pins This Week

Healthy treats like these strawberry oatmeal bars are totally worth turning your oven on for! Strawberries are in season and these would be a great little treat to make. They are downright healthy if you leave off the sweetened topping, but I personally vote for the sweetened topping. Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe post is here.

Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla Pie is another treat worth turning the oven on for this week- It’s all the tastiness of a quesadilla but baked in the oven with a tortilla crust. So cheesy and delicious! Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe is here.

This protein filled cinnamon roll smoothie is great breakfast that tastes amazing but you can drink while you are getting ready. Or while getting the kids ready. And while feeding the cats. And checking your email. So…. can you tell I’m a big fan of smoothies for breakfast? Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe post is here.

Mollie Makes has a series of beautiful crochet flower tutorials, and they are stunning! Pinterest link is here, and the original tutorial post is here.

I love the simplicity of this white on white dimensional art- made with glue! So many fun things could be done this way- a family surname, an inspiring phrase, or even an image if you can draw reasonably well! Pinterest link is here, and the original DIY post is here.
I think we are going to go strawberry picking this weekend, our first time taking Lila! Hopefully it won’t end up like that time we tried apple picking.

I love “Be Kind” board – such a simple and stylish idea! Have a fun weekend with your lovely family, dear Julie!
Love the reading tips. Because I don’t drive, I do almost all my reading on the bus on the way to work. I currently translate and edit for a living, so I’m kind of done with reading for the day by the time I’m going home, but in other jobs, I’ve also done a lot of reading on my way home. My husband and I sometimes joke about the fact that I go through zillions of books, but he basically never actually sees me read. And I fully support the idea of giving up on books that aren’t doing it for you. I’m pretty generous; I like to give a book until the halfway mark, but I have put books down sooner if they were *really* not working for me, and I have no guilt about putting them down after the mid-point. If an author hasn’t made me interested yet, it’s not going to happen (with the possible exception of Dickens — I find it very difficult to make it through the first halves, but the second halves usually fly by), and there are too many books out there to spend time with ones you’re not enjoying.
That’s another couple of recipes I’ll be trying, thanks.
That ‘Be Kind’ project looks a good one too.
& James looks super cute, knitted pants aren’t bad either (comment should really have been put on previous entry!)
I am guilty of wanting to be a perfectionist. I think for busy ppl audiobooks is the way to go. You can have it on while still helping your little on build a tower or listening to one in the car can be entertaining. We listened to Harry Potter in our Prius once during a road trip to down south.
I wish I could read and knit, like some knitters do. Reading is ong of the great pleasures of life, sometimes you just have to make time for it.
A toddler picking strawberries : you’re brave, but I’m sure it is going to be fun. Plan for a change of clothes (or two). Will you make a strawberry shortcake? Enjoy your week-end. It is our last in Montreal, we are saying good bye to many friends and it is hard. Good thing social media helps us stay connected like never before. Take care.
Love that glue art, so cool! Definitely putting this on my “to do” list for summer with my girls! Also, 100 calorie strawberry oatmeal bars? Oh yes please!!!! Great post and pics, as always
I’m excited to try out the quiche and the smoothie this weekend!
Those are some excellent reading tips! I love reading, but it’d be nice to cram more of it into my day. That quesadilla pie looks amazing, that’s definitely going on my to-cook list!
Wow! Game of Thrones themed knitting patterns? You’ve made my day. XD Love how subtle that dimensional art DIY is, too!
Cinnamon Roll Smoothie?! Seriously?! Did you have to do this to me Julie?
Well I think I’ll stear towards those strawberry bars instead. And most definitely the darling crocheted flowers. I’m loving the Be Kind.
