Most of you have probably heard of the van attack in Toronto by a man who was actively trying to kill as many women as he could. Surprisingly (or not) a lot has been written by men about this, and how maybe there is a need for sex robots (seriously?). But Tabatha Southey has a far more accurate and scathing take on it. A sampling: “It seems easier for some people to imagine sexy Tesla-driving androids than a world in which men don’t believe that women are the loot bags at the man party and everyone gets one. Leave it to a couple of guys to see eight women and two men dead and take the opportunity to reimagine the Sharper Image catalogue.”

My Favourite Pins This Week

I am a huge fan of breakfast for dinner, so I recommend considering these for more than just the morning. This one is pretty epic – it has french fries in it! – but I recommend skipping the fries and focusing on the rest of the ingredients. I personally go crazy for anything that has both bacon and avocado in it, so this check all the right boxes for me. Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe (along with some drool-worthy photos) can be found here.

And speaking of breakfasty things for other times of the day- a really quick cherry and cream cheese danish recipe. The base is frozen puff pastry (which I adore and keep in my freezer at all times, because instant pastry is NEVER a bad idea), and then you whip together a little cream cheese with sugar and vanilla, and top with your favourite fruit. You can use the completely scrumptious cherry pie filling on top, but really, topping it with your favourite fresh fruit (raspberries! peaches! strawberries!) is far more satisfying and cuts down on the sugar dramatically. Okay, I’m not even that much of a margarita fan, but this margarita party idea sounds like SO much fun! By putting out all sorts of different ingredients, guests can customize their drink exactly- something fruity, herby, spicy or any sort of mix in between, and there is something so visually appealing about seeing all sorts of ingredients spread out on a table and you know you can mix whatever you want. Pinterest link is here, and the full party idea with lists for what to serve and how can be found here.

I’ve been loving the tutorials on Picot Pals, and this little peony bloom one is no exception. I don’t know what it is about crocheted flowers, but they charm the socks right off of me every time. Pinterest link is here, and full pattern and instructions are here.

I’m not usually one to support happiness ideas that involve going shopping, but this one has really been working for me lately- upgrade your bum-around clothes. We all have those ratty t shirts or sweat pants or something completely hideous but really comfy that we tend to wear around the house. But wearing frumpy things typically makes most people feel…. frumpy. And tired. And probably a bit grouchy. Wait, is that just me? Anyway, I recently invested in all sorts of new super soft leggings and short onesies (I don’t know if that’s what they are really called, they look like this) and I feel cozy and cute when I wear them, which instantly brightens my mood. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, which I know can be a hard time for some people. If Mother’s Day has you feeling less than great, take a break from social media and do something nice and offline for yourself. Possibly getting new, cute, hanging-around-the-house clothes? Or whipping up some awesome danishes for yourself and some friends? Just a thought.
