Modification Monday: Heid Sheep on Mittens

Original Patterns: Peerie Flooers and Sheep Heid

Knitter Extraordinaire: Beverley (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Using the general pattern for Peerie Flooers and  switching out the design for the Sheep Heid charts, Beverley created these mittens to match her original Sheep Heid hat. Details for the mitts can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I am a believer in having 2 matching winter accessories (more than 2 gets a little too matchy-matchy), and Beverley did a great job of looking at her wonderful hat, and deciding it needed matching mitts. This is a great example of how you can often switch out charts on other patterns that are written for colourwork, provided you are willing to make a few stitch adjustments to get the repeat working with the different stitch count. That is the real tricky part, but can often be managed by either compressing or expanding on the sections in between the chart repeats, or by changing gauge.  Fortunately both the hat and mitts are the same gauge, and Beverley was able to get the charts working great for her wonderful custom sheep mitts. Such an awesome set, don’t you think?
