This little doll is the result of the Fuzzy Mitten Mystery knitalong, and the pattern turned out to be an adorable little elf! It was so fun to work through the clues. The pattern also included a little cape and boots, but I haven’t knit them- I wanted to give it to Lila, and give her age, little accessories often go missing. I’ve already had to replace the ribbon in the onesie that the elf is wearing. Although Barbara recommended sewing it int he middle so that it can’t be pulled out, which is a great idea.

The little details for this dolls are clever- there’s different options for the hair, and of course you could add all sorts of different options, but I really wanted to use that yarn for her hair, and I didn’t have enough to add a longer hairstyle so I chose to do two small buns underneath her little pointy elf ears. If you look closely, you’ll see the little leaf pockets, a detail I really love and are fully functional. I considered knitting some wings to add on and turn the elf into a fairy, something I might still do, but I was struggling to get the shaping right and realized I’d have to attach them to the outfit rather than the doll, otherwise the clothes wouldn’t work. Perhaps I could knit the wings and add little arm loops, so that they could be worn and removed?
This doll is 17 inches in length, and really quite sweet. I prefer to knit toys in cotton yarns for durability, but the hair and onesie are leftover merino from previous projects. If you enjoy knitting toys, I would highly recommend this pattern. I can see it having a lot of versatility, and with different hair and styling, it can easily be a boy instead of a girl.
I finished assembling the whole thing while in the car driving up north this past weekend, and I just reached back and passed the doll to Lila without saying a word. She calls it her Anna doll! She just saw Frozen for the first time a few weeks ago, and now everything has to be Frozen related. She will also now only wear clothes with Frozen characters on them. Sigh…. but at least she loves her new knitted doll!
