New rules, apparently we are all supposed to say if a post is sponsored up at the top, not at the bottom! But if you ever have any questions about what that means for the content here, or what my criteria is for sponsored posts, feel free to email me any time – my email is over there, on the right. So! Onto the real content….
A super quick velvet cowl? Yes please. Even if it means taking photos in a some sort of freezing rain. Fortunately, terrible weather means you take all the photos you need to inside of 5 minutes, because standing outside in the freezing rain with no coat is no fun.

Pattern: I made it up- I cast on 108 stitches, and worked k2, p2 ribbing for 20 inches and then bound off. Super simple!
Needles: 6.5 mm (US 10.5)
Yarn: Bernat Velvet in Burgundy Plum
This yarn is so incredibly soft, I knew instantly that I wanted to knit a cowl, just to have all that plush velvet near my throat. I dare you to try squishing a skein (the skeins are HUGE, by the way – it’s a two-handed squish for sure) and managing to resist it! This cowl only took less than half a skein, which I’m pretty thrilled about. I think casting on another 40 stitches and using the whole skein would big a wonderfully big, double-loop cowl. Not that I have any complaints about this cozy thing.

The Burgundy Plum color is available in stores and on Yarnspirations.com, plus there are lots of colours you can order direct from the website here. I love the Vapour Gray (planning to knit a sweater in this colourway!) and the Shadow Purple, myself. The colourways are all so dimensional, you can literally see how plush the yarn is. The yarn holds up really well, even when ripping back. Some velvety yarns end up with the fluff coming off, but this seems to be well made and holds up well, even with wear.
I also really love looking through the #bernatvelvet hashtag on Instagram, it’s really inspiring for the variety of crochet and knit items that people have made with the yarn in a variety and there are SO MANY ideas for future things I’d love to make – it’s a very inspiring rabbithole! Toys (the velvet teddy bears are particularly pretty), sweaters, shorts, skirts, dresses, accessories- even scrunchies! I love the velvet scrunchies, they look incredible. But I can personally attest to a velvet cowl. It’s easy to be happy in a velvet cowl.

As for that other half of the skein… I’m thinking of some mittens? But at a smaller gauge, to help keep the wind out. Some velvety soft mittens…. sound so wonderful, I should cast on right away!
