I’m knitting summer cardigans, and I can’t wait to wear them – even though knitting them is pure pleasure.

I have fallen pretty hard for Berroco’s Remix yarn, which is made of 100% recycled fibres and seems to get softer and softer the more I handle it. Once I heard that Berroco is having a KAL for the new pattern collection for their Remix yarns, and I had to join in- because even though I don’t need an excuse to start knitting a sweater with this yarn, having a general goal to finish helps me tremendously in actually finishing the knits on time! The KAL is going until the end of August, if anyone is interested in joining.

I’m one sleeve and some ribbing away from finishing the Mama Vertebrae cardigan, and I’ve swatched for my Beachrock Cardigan, in the worsted weight. I did share a photo of my Mama Vertebrae last month on Instagram when it was just at the beginning:

I’m almost finished my Mama Vertabrae cardigan, which is knit in Berroco Remix Light (a DK weight) in ‘Light Smoke’. My Beachrock Cardigan is in Berroco Remix (worsted weight) in ‘Mist’. But the colourways are SO different. I mean, really. they couldn’t be more different:

You see?! The Mist colourway (on the left, of course) is a pale greyish blue with tweedy flecks of white and grey and aqua. The Light Smoke colourway on the right is a light grey with white and black tweedy flecks. Totally different. Couldn’t be more different! Maybe a little easier to see in this photo:

It’s taken me a little longer to cast on for Beachrock than I typically take- I’ve struggled with the swatching. The pattern calls for a 4.5 mm needle, but my swatch came out too large, so I swatched again – properly this time, in the broken rib stitch like the pattern called for- and my gauge still came out a bit big- 19 stitches for 4 inches instead of 20 stitches for 4 inches. I’m not willing to knit the worsted weight yarn on a 3.75 mm needle (the fabric will be too stiff), so I’m going to make a couple of slight tweaks to the stitch count to accommodate the extra stitch every 4 inches. Fortunately, the pattern looks like it will be pretty forgiving in terms of fit, and I’ll be checking on the measurements the whole way to make sure that I stay on target for sizing.
it’s been a really hot summer here in Toronto, which I’m loving- I still take my knitting everywhere, and there are always lots of cool, air conditioned cafes to knit in! Apparently I take this task very seriously.
