Original Patterns: Elske and Calavera Mittens
Knitter Extraordinaire: Matkailijakirppu  (Ravelry ID, blog)
Mods:Â Matkailijakirppu combined the Elske sock pattern and lengthened them, incorporating the Day of the Dead Skull designs from the Calvera mittens. Details and great photos can be found on her project page here.
What Makes This Awesome: Mitten and sock patterns are great opportunities for swapping charts in and out, as they are usually done on similar numbers of stitches and same yarn weight/needle sizes. Matkailijakirppu did an awesome job of using the Elske socks as a starting point, lengthening them, and adding a great detail of the skull design from the mitten pattern at the knees.
There’s also a flower from the skull design on the mitten chart on the sole of the sock, too! Incorporating a detail from the mitten pattern at both the top and bottom of the socks helps to give the modification a really cohesive, planned effect. I love how they worked out, there’s something so gothically whimsical about these amazing socks!

I hate skulls in any shape or form but everything else in these socks is beautiful, and the flower detail on the sole, how clever! Knowing how much work is involved makes this a truly noteworthy project.
Oh my goodness, those socks are FANTASTIC!
These are so good! Not being a knitter myself, I find it a bit mind boggling that Matkailijakirppu made them with her own hands! Impressive indeed. Love the flower on the sole.
Oh my! You found a good one here! Absolutely blown over.
