Original Pattern: Imoogi: Dragon PonchoÂ
Knitter Extraordinaire: Meaghan (Ravelry Profile)
Mods: Took the stitch design from the poncho and applied it to a bottom up, circular yoke sweater recipe. Details can be found on her project page, here.
What Makes This Awesome: It’s easy to get caught up in how jaw-dropping this sweater is, but let’s spend minute looking at WHY. Meaghan chose a beautiful gradient yarn in a colourway that really enhances that dragon concept that she set out to achieve with this sweater. She also chose a really interesting stitch! The scale-like stitch design from the original pattern fascinated her, and she applied it to a sweater style that she was familiar with as a knitter. You absolutely can do something like this- find a sweater pattern that you know and really love – preferably one that you have already knit and really like the fit- and then find a stitch pattern that you love, and adapt it to the sweater design.

Result? A brand new sweater fully customized to a stitch you love, in a yarn you love, in a fit that works. And don’t underestimate how the right yarn choice can really make your custom sweater that much more magical!

Wow, indeed, this is stunning! Isn’t it amazing what we can do with yarn? The colorway and stitch pattern create an extraordinary effect.
Stunning is the word. I don’t think we knitters these days do enough experimenting with unusual stitches. Maybe due to our busy lifestyles. Nice to see Meaghan took the time. And I think this yarn and stitch pattern would make a great little stuffed dragon or dinosaur for some lucky little boy.
