Cozy Winter

Cozy Winter is a collection of my favourite wintery things- hats, mittens, sweaters, hot cups of tea or coffee or cocoa, and the way spruce trees suddenly seem more magnificent and the little white winter berries that are still visible on bushes.

**If you are brand new to embroidery and need more info on how to get your hoop set up / separate strands of embroidery floss, check out the top video on the resources page! **

Stitching order doesn’t really matter for the spruce tips, yarn balls and winter berries, but for the other items, this is the recommend stitching order for the items (but it doesn’t matter if you start with the sweater, or the sock – only the order for each of the items matters):

Pink Mug:

  1. Darker pink at the top, the inside of the mug
  2. light pink outer mug, satin stitch across the whole front
  3. yellow flowers and greenery stitched overtop pink satin stitch on mug

Green Sweater:

  1. sweater cuffs, neckline and hem in satin stitch
  2. green sweater yoke detail
  3. then the off white diamonds in the green stitched yoke
  4. then the strand of butterscotch/ginger cookie in the off white diamond
  5. french knots in light pink
  6. running stitch withe lightest green
  7. split stitch outline of sweater

Hat:

  1. satin stitch ribbing
  2. satin stitch fair isle stars
  3. french knots
  4. pom pom worked in all french knots- outline the shape of the pom pom with french knots, then fill in with more french knots until it looks ‘fluffy’ (see video below for more detail on this)
  5. outline hat in the off white

Socks:

  1. Satin stitch the dark pink stripes of the sock
  2. satin stitch the yellow diamonds in the pink band
  3. satin stitch the cuff, toes, and heels in the yellow
  4. fill in the butterscotch squares in satin stitch in the pink stripe
  5. outline the remaining sock in the off white in split stitch

Mitts:

  1. satin stitch ribbing
  2. satin stitch fair isle stars
  3. french knots
  4. outline the mitts in the dark steel blue in split stitch

If you’d like some help making the french knots, here’s a short tutorial.
