Modification Monday: Braid and Cable Mitts

Original Patterns: Max Patch, and Tiilda Mittens

Knitter Extraordinaire: Chloe (Ravelry profile, Instagram)

Mods: Chloe adjusted the two mitten patterns, mixing cables from both designs. She also added a double cuff and a Latvian braid, and customized the fit and the thumb. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I love Chloe’s buffet-style approach these beautiful mitts! A little of this, and a little of that, and she has customized a wonderful, warm pair of mitts. She made changes that were both planned and that she winged- one of the cables  in the Max Patch mitts, wasn’t showing up well in her yarn choice, so she substituted a cable design from Tiilda instead. She had already planned to modify the cuff to have the extra thickness and the Latvian braid (such a pretty details!), and the rest of the modifications were decided as she went.

Now, not everyone can stomach making changes mid project, but it is a GREAT way to get creative and solve any issues you see cropping up while knitting. Experiment, it’s so worth it.

Also, I read Chloe’s most recent novel, The Immortalists, and loved it (I actually wrote a mini review about it in previous book review post!). So when a writer I admire is also a knitter AND made a great mod, my day is made. 🙂
