Modification Monday: Cathedral Gloves

Original Patterns: I-Cord Gloves and Cathedral Mittens

Knitter Extraordinaire: clkerrigan (Ravelry ID)

Mods: This knitter combined two different patterns for a completely innovative half-fingered glove set with great architectural details. Great details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: There are a lot of wonderful details to love about these gloves. I always really enjoy it when a knitter takes two patterns and makes something new, and this knitter not only did that, she also used the project to practice some new skills and techniques she had picked up through workshops and classes.  The construction is fascinating- it’s finger tip down to wrist!

I love the extra highlight of the contrasting yarn for part of the cathedral design on the top of the gloves- what a great idea to add that little extra something to a design element with great shape! I want to try this, it’s such a clever idea, and would only require a tiny bit of yarn, if done as shown here. What do you think? Have you ever used a contrast yarn to give a small highlight that wasn’t in the pattern as written?

I love how high these digits go, I mean only the top is bare! The ultimate texting mittens.

These are awesome! What a clever creator for combining two patterns and adding a touch of color to highlight the pattern & for making from fingertips down to wrist! Thanks for sharing!!
