Original Pattern: Soldotna
Knitter Extraordinaire: Claire (Ravelry profile, instagram)
Mods: Modified the yoke chart to include hearts and bead berries, and changed the colouring to be a Christmas sweater. Great close up photos and info on the mods can be found on her project page, here.
What Makes This Awesome: What a brilliant idea- make your own holiday sweater from a pattern that you love! Claire’s take on the Soldotna is fantastic. The modification for the small red heart have a great nordic vibe, and I love the red beads for berries on the arrowhead design. COupled with the dark green, they look like holly branches. The whole colour scheme and the small mods have such a huge impact, and I can imagine that Claire will treasure this sweater every December.
Think over some of your favourite sweater patterns- would you turn them into a holiday sweater, or another seasonally-themed knit?

Claire! You smartysweater! You’re going to start a trend….what a simple twist with wow results!
Julie, love how you hunt these amazing mods and share.
So many knitters don’t realize just a color swap or simple switch of a knit for a purl make it yours. I know many knitters that stick to a pattern (even buying the same yarn as the designer sample) because they don’t understand what changes they CAN make without changing the structure of the design.
MOD Monday brings them a little closer to trying something new….
(I REALLY REALLY missed Link Love last week)
Ahhh, this is so cute!
