Original Patterns: Criollo and Endearment

Knitter Extraordinaire: Sanna (Ravelry Profile)

Mods: Sanna combined elements of both the Criollo and Endearment patterns, using the contiguous method for creating the top down set in sleeve. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I love how Sanna combined different elements of the cardigan patterns, and also went for the customized sleeve by working the contiguous method, which is a top down set in sleeve. The contiguous method is really quite adaptable to a variety of knitting patterns, so it’s worth looking at and seeing if it is something you might want to try – growing your skills as a knitter by modifying patterns is a great way to stretch your skills a bit.

Sanna hit a trouble spot that comes up for all us knitters from time to time- she ended up with a skein that was a different dye lot, and it was noticeable. In order to tackle that, she used the darker dye lot on the sleeves and faded it in by alternating skeins with the main dye lot. The result is a lovely tonal shift that really makes it work. It looks beautiful on her!

Wow-different dye lot?! It almost looks like a completely different color!
So Sanna the Superknitter (as I shall always think of her) was….
    -Merging two patterns
    -Doing a contiguous sleeve
-Hoping she wouldn’t have to use the alien skein but plotting what to do in case, and not just “hmm, maybe I’ll do dark cuffs it just make it short sleeved” but…”oh yes, I’ll do a tonal merge of the colorblind cake” ALL AT THE SAME TIME?
Any one of those and I would reach Olympic status for needle hurling.
    Astounding.
Now I know why I’m afraid to make a sweater.
    (BTW, you’ve been missed 😉

Gorgeous cardigan, and impressive mods. I must explore this contiguous method, I love set-in sleeves so much more than raglan.
