Modification Monday: Gabrielle for the Holidays

Original Pattern: Gabrielle

Knitter Extraordinaire: Dana (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Adjusted the gauge to a bulky weight, and adjusted the sleeves to be 3/4 length, more fitted, and with a garter cuff to match the shale design. Details on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I love Dana’s Holiday sweater! Dana wanted to knit a quick sweater for the holidays, and saw this pattern. She describes the shale stitch in the center and how it looks like bands of festive garland, and I think she’s absolutely right. She had yarn in her stash that was a nice Christmassy colour, and decided to go for it. Not only is this stashbustingly wonderful, but at the heavier gauge and knitting the smaller size, she knit this sweater in 48 hours. Wow – to have a sweater that looks this good that quickly is so inspiring! Also, remember- it’s not about making the huge dramatic modifications every time. Sometimes the mod is changing to a larger gauge and knitting a smaller size, and adjust a few small things along the way.

What do you think? Want to spend the day stash diving with me for bulky weight yarns so we all can have a gorgeous sweater like this in 48 hours??

I love Dana’s knitting blog – she is totally inspiring when it comes to knitting! I love the little matching knit sweaters she often does for her dogs. 🙂
