Modification Monday: Margaret Tudor Top

Original Pattern: Margaret Tudor

Knitter Extraordinaire: Karianne (Ravelry Profile)

Mods: Karianne loved the design, but not the fit, so she customized the charts on a fitted tee instead. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: This happens to us all eventually – you see a pattern, usually in some decades-old knitting pattern book (hardcopy, of course) and you see something that makes your jaw drop, but the general garment just isn’t your thing. Maybe the shape doesn’t work for your body type, maybe the shape is too old fashioned, maybe it’s something else entirely. But there are elements that you love, element that you think of long after you closed the book and walked away.

And that’s when you know you have to knit it — or a version of it. Taking a stitch design that you love and working it into a different style of garment is a great idea to work in something you love into a different type of garment (or accessory, this could have been an amazing rectangular wrap, too!), especially if you have a knitting pattern for a top that you love and have knitted before- it can really help with working the new stitches into the pattern more easily.

It’s worth clicking through to the photos on Ravelry to see the close ups of the textured stitches- a gorgeous thistle design, and I can see why Karianne really wanted to work it into a more modern design and a fit that she would wear. It’s beautiful!

I think AS would get a kick out of seeing where her design has taken someone. This is amazing.
