Modification Monday: Oa

Original Pattern: The Oa and Carraig Fhada

Knitter Extraordinaire: Helga (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Eliminated the hood from The Oa pattern, knit the sleeves in one colour, and followed the directions for the armhoe and neckline steeks from Carraig Fhada. Great information on her mods can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome:  Colourwork bodies and solive sleeves, I love this combo! But what I especially love about Helga’s sweater is that this is her first fair isle knitting, and her modifications were often chosen as a means of adjusting what was happening with the knit. Since she didn’t feel comfortable in doing colourwork with the shifting stitch count that would have happened on the sleeves, she opted for solid sleeves. She found the steeking directions easier from one pattern, so she followed those instead. When her neckline turned out a bit big, she added in some more knitting before starting the neckband.

All these small, thoughtful details and modification were the result of thinking carefully about the project as she went, and the result is so incredible. Hard to believe this is a first fair isle project, it looks sao fantastic!

Whow, indeed! Totally impressive for a first Fair Isle project, and a fearless knitter on top on being extraordinaire. Simple and effective colors too.

Really beautiful mods on this one. I love the original and I think this one is just the right riff on the pattern 🙂
