Original Pattern: Bleecker Shawl
Knitter Extraordinaire: Adriene (Ravelry ID)
Mods: Taking the colourful design from the shawl, Adriene incorporated the intarsia stripes into an improvised top design. Great details and lots of helpful photos of her process can be found on her project page, here.
What Makes This Awesome:Â So many things make this awesome- I love that Adriene went with vibrant colours for the stripes, and kept the structure of the top straightforward (really, her project page has fantastic notes that probably most intermediate knitters could follow for themselves). I love the split hem, and keeping the neckline simple with a small boatneck. Now look at the photo below, at the arm holes – see how the arm hole twisted ribbing is perpendicular to the twisted ribbing on the shoulders and neckline? I love that kind of thoughtful detail, it looks so polished.
Think about some colourwork or intarsia designs you’ve seen on other (non-garment) knits- wouldn’t that be a cool idea to take a chart you love and turn it tinto an awesome top like this?

This is fantastic and a great idea. I would probably choose different colors and give it some ease (tight fitting isn’t good for me) but otherwise, a winner all around. Another great mod!
Yep, totally awesome top with a 70s vibe to it, with the pattern and color scheme. Brilliant use of the pattern. And she used short rows, which is probably why it fits so well. A true knitter extraordinaire!
Gorgeous!
excellent. As soon as I scrolled down and saw Adriene I recognized her from Ravelry. She’s in our local Ravelry group.
Wow, talk about talent plus creativity. Excellent idea and excellent work!
