Modification Monday: Phoebe Flappybat

Original Pattern: Marisol the Knitted Mouse

Knitter Extraordinaire: Sara (Ravelry Profile)

Mods: Using the toy mouse pattern as a starting point, Sara made this adorable knitted bat stuffie! Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: Lila adores bats, and when your kid loves something, it becomes pretty special for you as well- so I basically squealed when I saw this fantastic bat modification! When knitting a toy, the best parts are often in the details, and Sara did a great job of making the details of this little bat clever and special- I love the garter loop feet so that the bat can be hung upside down, and the contrasting darker ears and nose look so good. Even the wings (she links to another modified pattern that inspired the wings) are well thought out and have lovely shaping details!

Knitted toys are perfect for stashbusting, trying out new techniques, and whipping up a quick knit. If you haven’t made one in a while, maybe this summer is the perfect time?
