Modification Monday: Spellman Sweater for Johanna

Original Pattern: Spellman Sweater

Knitter Extraordinaire: Heather (Ravelry Profile)

Mods: Adjusted the adult sweater to be suitable for a child size, also making it short sleeved. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: If you are lucky enough to have a child in your life that is super jazzed about handknits, You have to knit for them! I love this short sleeved version – which would be a great summer mod for kids or grown ups. Adjusting an adult sweater pattern for a child size is usually much easier if you are working with a top down pattern, so that they can try it on as you go and ensure a good fit.

Starting with the smallest pattern size and being careful to check your gauge is an ideal way to approach this project. If the smallest size of the pattern is way too big, you can experiment with reducing your gauge (smaller needles, and thinner/lighter yarn) and checking your swatch. If you need a refresh on gauge and swatches, Tin Can Knits has a good one!
