Original Patterns: Birkin and Colors for a Cloudy Day
Knitter Extraordinaire: Sally (Ravelry Profile and Blog)
Mods: Sally combined the yoke and body of Birkin with the hem detail of Colors for a Cloudy Day, and then modified the hem construction as well- great details can be found on her project page, here.
What Makes This Awesome: I love a pattern mashup soooooomuch, and this is really a stunning mashup! Sally’s choice of two really incredible patterns to combine emphasizes the strengthens of both patterns really well. The pretty flowers and vine from the stranded yoke design look wonderful added at the bottom and creates a great balance to avoid the yoke making the sweater too visually top heavy. I especially love the additional modification of framing the stranded design at the hem with the i cord, it looks so perfect with this design.
The next time you are knitting a sweater with a stranded yoke, keep this hem in mind- even if you don’t go for the rounded cut out detail like this, perhaps consider working in some elements of the design again before the ribbing?

Love this unexpected detail. Such a clever mod.
I recognized the Birkin right away. It is really nice with the motif repeated before the hem, but not sure to like the cut-out very much. Beautiful work nonetheless!
Birkin is a classic I have loved and had in my queue for a long while, but that hem detail is so adorable! Birkin may move to the top of my queue with this sweet mod!
Clever and beautiful way to combine 2 patterns!
