Pin Ups and Link Love: My Favourite Things This Week

An anonymous photographer is mocking the typical hipster Instagram account by using Barbie dolls and all the hashtags that go along with it. You can read one of the many articles on it here, and check out the instagram feed here. It’s so spot-on, I laughed for ages.

We must say no in order to say yes to the things that matter to us.

A short video of all sorts of animals and the funny ways they sleep!

I really enjoyed this compelling first hand account of a dad who let his career take the backseat to his wife’s, and took on the majority of the childrearing their two sons. I totally want to high five this guy- perhaps when more men experience what working women experience, there can be a greater collective push to working structures that help both moms and dads be the parents they want to be.

And guess what? I did my first Periscope last night- a little mini book review of Handknit Holidays: Knitting Year-Round for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Winter Solstice , a book I’ve had for ages. It was my first test run, and afterwards I figured out how to turn my smart phone tripod around so that I can have the camera vertical instead of horizontal, but I think it went pretty good for a first try. I’m on Periscope as knittedblissJC, and the video is ‘live’ for 24 hours (so you still have another 13 hours to watch it). If you don’t have Periscope but are curious what I blathered on about, no worries! You can check it out here, but again, only for another 13 hours.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Peach Cupcakes | knittedbliss.com

Peaches are in season for such a short amount of time, so why not whip up a batch o these peach cupcakes with peach frosting? Fresh peach puree (directions are included for making it) gives these amazing cupcakes their peach-perfect flavour. Pinterest link is here, and the original post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Peanut Noodles and Chicken | knittedbliss.com

Easy and fast thai-inspired peanut noodles with chicken. So much healthier than restaurant pad thai! And leftovers would make a great take-to-work lunch, too. Pinterest link is here,  and the original recipe post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Animal Socks | knittedbliss.com

Ever since Sarah Wilson instagrammed about these amazing socks, I have not been able top get them out of my mind! I’m totally snapping up the pattern that includes directions on how to knit the kitty, owl, and panda variations (the designer has the pattern for the koala, fox, and pig socks, too!). And they don’t just have cute animal faces on them- they have meow, hoot, or rawr on the heel and at the bottom of the foot! Worth clicking through to check them out in all their photographed glory. Pinterest link is here, and the original Ravelry link is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: DIY Mobile | knittedbliss.com

This pretty driftwood and felt ball mobile is so pretty, and would look great in a variety of colours or rooms. Who says mobiles are just for kids rooms?! Pinterest link is here, and the original DIY post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Twisted Ponytail| knittedbliss.com

I love this easy twisted ponytail idea. It’s basically a riff on a french twist, but with fewer bobby pins and a more casual vibe. Do you think you’d like to try it? Pinterest link is here, and the original post is here.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Guy is going on a camping trip with some friends, so Lila and I are all set for some serious mommy-daughter bonding time. I’m planning on making those cat marshmallows from last Friday’s Pin Up post, too!
