Link Love: My Favourite Things This Week

My Favourite Articles and Links This Week

This was SO good- How Payless Shoes tricked a bunch of ‘fashion influencers’ into shelling out hundreds of dollars for their $35 shoes. Just goes to show, it’s not the product, it’s the hype.

This was very interesting- gender equity in developing nations as a tool for combating climate change.

Jameela Jamil (of The Good Place, which is surprisingly amazing and you should totally watch it) has some very compelling reasons why no one should be photoshopping images, especially celebrities. I’m trying to imagine what it would be like to grow up in a world where every photo you ever saw of a celebrity was completely unretouched and that sounds phenomenal. But also- I love filters. Would I still love filters if they weren’t the standard thing any instagram lover is totally used to seeing, though? Hmmm.

Wait, there’s an app where Matthew McConaughey will read me a bedtime story? Take my money. (Listen to the video clip!)

My Favourite Pins This Week

Kale Pesto Pizza is a trifecta of my favourite things- I love pizza, I love pesto, I love kale. Use store bought pizza dough and tuck into this easy weeknight dinner. Pinterest link is here,  and the full recipe can be found here.

This isn’t really recipe, it’s just a bloody brilliant idea- eggnog popsicles! I think adding a little fresh grated nutmeg to the mix before freezing will really makes these extra amazing, too. Plus, I drink eggnog waaaay too quickly. The frozen version is bound to slow me down, right? here’s hoping. Pinterest link is here, and the recipe is over here.

This is a great holiday cocktail idea that isn’t too heavy, and is easily made ‘virgin’ by cutting out the alcohol portion of the recipe. Plus, such a festive colour! Pinterest link is here, and the recipe is here.

How pretty are these paint swirl ornaments?! And so much easier than I was expecting, I’m thinking of trying this with Lila. Have any of you tried it before? Do they always turn out this pretty? Pinterest link is here and the full DIY is here.

These DIY tassel earrings are made with embroidery thread, so you could customize these match any outfit exactly. Plus, they look like they are so easy to make, and would make lovely handmade gifts, too! Pinterest link is here, and the full tutorial is right over here.

Love your links as usual. I am always on the look out for easy recipes so that kale pesto pizza looks perfect. Also will be trying out the eggnog pops using almond nog. And yes please to that sexy southern drawl 🙂 Hope you are feeling better & have a great weekend Julie!

We made the paint swirl ornaments in art class when I was in elementary school, and later I made them with the students at the rec center where I used to work. It’s a fun project, for sure.

They don’t ALWAYS turn out that pretty, but when they don’t, it’s usually because the colors mixed too much. Thinking about the color equations also helps prevent less pretty baubles. If you mix purple and green, you will get some kind of brown. But if you stick with primary colors and black and white, the places where the colors mix make other not-brown colors.

People seriously paid hundred of dollars for Payless shoes? I find it hard to believe though, or it means these so-called influencers are totally ignorant when it comes to quality materials and craftmanship. Oh well… I wouldn’t mind having Matthew McConaughey reading me a bedtime story either 😉

Haha, Matthew McConaughey “take my money”. You’re funny. Maybe not so sexy but still pretty good are audio books downloaded from the library. I’ve been falling asleep while listening to them for over a year now and it’s been great. I try to borrow the ebook and the audio versions of the same book at the same time. So I read the book until I’m almost tired enough to fall asleep and then I sync up the audiobook. I’m always asleep before the 15 minute time setting is up!

The eggnog Popsicles are a great idea, if you can actually get some. We were out checking a few different stores for eggnog this afternoon and came up empty. According to a guy stocking the shelves at Sobey’s, Toronto is in the middle of a nog shortage! Noooooo.

I love the eggnog popsicles! I put eggnog in my coffee for as long as it is available in stores every year and it’s my favorite thing. No need to sweeten or worry about milk type. I also get Horizon’s 40% less fat because less fat and also I find it to be the most delicious.
