Original Patterns: Basic Cardigan Vest for Men, and Fornicating Deer Chart

Knitter Extraordinaire: Katie (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Combined the simple sweater vest design with the charted mating deer (which is also originally based off the Baby Norgi sweater chart!) to create this custom sweater vest. Project page can be found here.

What Makes This Awesome: I love it when people add a stranded design to a basic knit, and Katie did a an awesome job of taking the very fun and slightly scandalous chart of two deer mating and incorporating it into the basic vest pattern. Now there is a conversation starting sweater!   Let’s all take a moment to appreciate what was no doubt the trickiest part of this- centering the motifs on the fronts and the middle back- it takes a lot of stitch counting, but is worth it to have the scene centered properly on the back, and also to not get cut off while working the left and right fronts. Way to go, Katie!

While I admire the stitch work, I could never wear something like this. Slightly too graphic for me…;-)

A few years ago, I knit two “frolicking deer” hats. They were a huge success!
Based on how cute this vest is, I think I just might knit a couple of “frolicking deer” sweaters to go with the hats… 😉
    Merry Christmas!!!

Oh, this is awesome – it’s hard to find sweater patterns for men that they might actually want to wear – I think this one might be a big hit for a couple men I know! 🙂
