Finished Knit: Leave-Me-Not Mitts

Ah, fingleress mitts. I can never have enough pairs. When you are often chilly, fingerless mitts are like the mittens you can wear indoors. while you are doing other things and no one thinks it’s weird. But if I was wearing full mittens while having a decaf latte? Side eyes from all around, I tell you.

You can see more on my Ravelry project page, here.

Pattern: Leave-Me-Not Mitts

Needle: 3.5 mm dpns (US 4)

Yarn: Debbie Bliss Merino DK in ‘Oyster’

Mods: No mods other than using left leaning and right leaning increases instead of the speciality stitch suggested. I’m lazy that way.

The mitts are super comfortable, and just right for taking a little chill away.

Hilariously, I finally remembered to take off my perpetual black hair elastic bracelet, only to see that it clearly has left a mark on my arm!

I was impressed with how quickly these  mitts knit up- I’d say each mitt took about 6 hours of total knitting each, which means you could easily crank these out in a weekend or about 4 evenings. And that feels so satisfying, when you can get a lovely finished knit that quickly, and out of so little yarn. I only used about half a skein of the Debbie Bliss Merino DK. I’d especially recommend knitting these if you are looking for something that is genuinely practical,  but only have about 60 yards of a special yarn. And that lovely leafy vine! I especially like that it’s not centered on the mitts, but closest to the thumb gusset. It’s pretty without being too fussy.

I know I don’t normally do indoor photos, but I’ve definitely been trying out new-to-me cafes recently, making the most of this final stages of my pregnancy. One of the fun new cafes I tried was Tots Cat Cafe. Oh yes, you read that right- a cat cafe.  If you haven’t heard of this before (and really, it’s not super common so don’t feel like you’re out of the loop), it’s a cafe that also has a glassed-in room with cats. You can go in, play with and pet the cats, and abide by the rules (generally, no picking up the cats, a limited number of people in at any given time, etc.). Cat cafes are partnered with local animal shelters, so all the cats there are available for adoption.

Guy thinks it’s ridiculous that we went to cat cafe when we have cats at home- I think he called me a ‘cat philanderer’.

There were three cats when I went there (with Erica), two of which had arrived that day- the other had all been adopted! I love hearing that they are doing so well with their adoption rate, normally adult pets linger at shelters for such a long time.  There were two sweet little black cats, and a white and tabby one with the pinkest nose ever. Normally black cats have a harder time getting adopted (which is crazy considering that their cat hair doesn’t’ show up quite as obviously on everything as lighter coloured cats), but three previous black cats had all been adopted recently, so these two sweeties will surely get their day. All three were so good and very playful. Cat Cafe| knittedbliss.com

Have any of you tried out a cat cafe? Would you?

  1. They really work for the chilly hands, Julie? 🙂 I have a battle at home: warm house and painful sinuses, or cold house, no headache, and cold hands. I’ve been wondering for a while now if I should knit myself up a pair of those!

Love the mitts and the pretty nude colour makes them even more subtle for indoor wear. Really lovely!
I archived some b-roll of Tot’s at work and the cats were so cute!! There were only 3 cats that day as well so the adoptions seem to be going swimmingly! Was the coffee good?

I have never heard of a cat cafe! What a cool idea and so awesome for pet adoption. My mind has been blown, love it. Gorgeous mitts too. I have recently become a total convert to fingerless mitts. With 2 little ones that always need help with zippers, kleenex, toys etc, having my hands warm but with more flexibility than a conventional mitt offers has been key.

Lovely mitts. I think they have opened one or two cat cafés in Montreal. I would love to go but it would have to be without my daughter, who is super allergic to cats. My husband would love it though. He still misses our cat we had to give away after our girl was born. Cats are wonderful companions. It’s a great idea to offer people the chance to interact with the cats and the possibility to adopt as well, sometimes it just clicks with an animal when you have a chance to play a bit with them.

I would totally go to a cat café (despite having a cat at home myself). And I have never understood why people are so hesitant to adopt black cats, but it’s part of the reason we brought home the one we did when we went to adopt one. He had the triple whammy of being black, adult, and huge, but we thought he was perfect — and we still think so.

Your fingerless mitts are beautiful! I just finished a pair of Cafe au Lait fingerless mitts yesterday in cobalt blue. I was wearing them when I read your post. That Cat Cafe looks like a lot of fun.

A cat cafe to help with adoptions – what a wonderful idea!! If they opened one in my town, I would go every day. (Though my kitties at home may get a little miffed if the found out I was flirting with other cats…) ^><^

Your mitts are so nice looking! And I can’t wait to go to the Cat Cafe.

“Side eyes from all around” . You make me laugh.
Not in Alaska. Even in the nicer restaurants it’s not uncommon to find people dining with their winter coats on once it drops to -20F outside. Get your latte mittens on and come North.
Do love the mitts. I’ve been eyeing that pattern since it debuted. Wonder if it’s too late to rework the holiday gift list……
The cat cafe is a great idea for adoption! And for de-stressing.
Nothing wrong with indoor shots. That’s where most of us spend the winter.
    I should take a peak at the stash…60 yds….

Beautiful mitts. I think if I lived in a different climate I would be all over those beauties.
Hehe- I love the cat café. If I had a cat I would be there in a heartbeat. Love those black cats!

A cat cafe is such a great initiative! So happy to hear so many cats are finding a good home this way. And your mitts are absolutely lovely. I agree that there is no such thing as too many fingerless mitts.

Cat cafe?! I’ve never even heard of it! 🙂 The mitts look great – jut the right amount of interesting details!

That is creative, a cat cafe. You look good, girl. I don’t see it as weird to wear mitts in the house. I’ve started wearing mine b/c it’s dang cold here during the day.

I wish there is a cat cafe here! Love those mitts! They look so simple but chic!
