FO: Forest Fold and Turn

Pattern: Fold & Turn

Yarn: Knit Picks Swish Worsted in Jade

Needles: 4.5mm (US 7)

Modifications: As I have a small frame, I knit it slightly smaller, by not knitting the body quite as wide. I knocked off about 2 inches from the width, and I’m happy with that. Fold & Turn Shrug Cardigan | knittedbliss.com

Thoughts: I really wish I had chosen a different yarn. There’s nothing wrong with Swish Worsted per se, but something about it seems so blah looking with all the stockinette- it’s a yarn probably better suited to cables and texture. I originally chose it because I’m craving dark, rich forest greens lately, and this was the colour I was going for, but I wish I had knit this in a tweed or a marled yarn. Which isn’t to say I wouldn’t knit this again- I love the pattern, and the overall result is lovely. This was a super simple knit, and I love the shape of it. The pattern was well written, with diagrams to help understand the simple yet clever construction.

I would say this is a hybrid cardigan-shrug that has a batwing silhouette (which I clearly am loving this year) and really perfect for throwing on for a little extra coziness. It’s super easy to wear, and does what I love my knits to do best- turn jeans and a tee shirt into an actual outfit that looks great.  A fabulous necklace doesn’t hurt, either.

The one I’m wearing is a vintage find that I adore and which I oddly have never, ever received a single compliment on. I’m not fishing for one, but you all know what I’m talking about- I think we all have one thing that we wear and love, yet has never really been acknowledged by anyone else as the spectacular awesome thing that we know it to be. Do you have something that you love to wear like that? Something that you love, but doesn’t seem to strike a chord with anyone else?

P.S- I’ll do the outtakes post this weekend, there are some funny ones!

What a great shrug! This will be wonderful for the coming cold. I love the colour but I can see what you mean with bland. I think all these wonderful variegated yarns kind of spoil the “simple” yarns, it feels like something is missing. With the combination of an accessoire like your necklace (which I like btw 😉 it looks great anyway.

Beautiful! I actually love the colour, I don’t think that it’s too plain at all. And, please don’t take this the wrong way, but I didn’t even notice that you were wearing a necklace until you mentioned it! Which I find incredibly weird since as soon as you mentioned it I scrolled back through the photos and went “wow! what a gorgeous piece!” How had I not noticed it before? Maybe because it was overshadowed by a gorgeous hand knit.

    Gorgeous!!

Beautiful piece (although I know what you mean about Swish). Do you find that it actually stays on your shoulders or do you have to tug at it to keep it in place?

The cardigan is lovely, but maybe you can add a bit of interest with some simple embroidery? A line of single crochet in a colourful yarn, along the border between the stockinette and edging? Or maybe the simplicity of it will grow on you, because it’s so much easier to add interesting accessories 🙂

Beautiful cardigan. I would never choose that color for myself, but I love it now that I see it knitted up, and you look great in it! And the loose nature of the cardigan also looks quite nice – doesn’t overwhelm you at all (I am constantly worrying about being swallowed in loose, boxy sweaters). I love seeing you take on these batwing sweaters… it gives me inspiration (and hope). Can’t wait to see what you tackle next.

The fold and turn turned out beautiful!! I love the deep dark green, but the miles of stockinette would definitely be great for something tonal. This one is in my queue 🙂 Love the necklace! I have a pair of pearl earrings that I love to wear and I think really set things off, but they often go unnoticed 🙂 It’s the way of the world I think!

I love the shape and color of this shrug! And the necklace is beautiful too. 🙂 I have plenty of things that I love but others don’t seem to notice, but I think getting compliments depends on a combination of the people you happen to see throughout the day, plus their own personal style, plus some other mysterious elements. It’s all so up to chance and subjectivity that in the end, the only thing that matters is that we like what we’re wearing!

That looks fabulous! The color is just perfect.

This is so beautiful! The yarn would work great for texture or cables, but I think it also works really well for this project. Can’t wait to see the outtakes as well 🙂

Done already? I am impressed, and the result is gorgeous. I see what you mean about a tweed or marled yarn, or something wit a bit more texture to it. Still it works well, and this lovely dark green knit is going to look fantastic not inly with jeans, but also with brown and beige, or cream white and light grey. I see this as a new basic that you will often wear. I love it.

I love how the solid colour allows other things to shine (that necklace!) while drawing attention to the neat construction and setting off your coloring beautifully – this shade of green looks fabulous on you!

I adore this much like I adored your lady bat. Any chance you could share the sizing mods? I could definitely get some use out of this one. I really love the simplicity of it too, it will go with everything.

I think it would look great in a tweed yarn or maybe a speckled one, but definitely not variegated, that would take away from the design I think – I love it as it is! It looks fantastic on you. And I love the colour! I also would like to know if it stays on your shoulders well or if it tends to fall off, I cannot stand when that happens!
5 stars and sparkles for this one!

Love how cozy this looks! I think the yarn looks perfect here… Its always useful to have some knits that are more simple… This deep gorgeous green looks absolutely gorgeous here while allowing the necklace (which looks great even to a non-necklace person like me, so I’m surprised to read that no one mentioned that before) to pop.

That’s kind of how I feel about all KP yarn these days.

    I love the necklace! 🙂

Have you heard of Women in Clothes? It’s a book out about just exactly that: womeninclothes.com. If you go to the website you can look at the survey questions. It’s pretty interesting, and it speaks to how important what we wear really is.

I love this finish – a great silhouette and sort of effortless chic. I really like the colour on you, but have to stalk ravelry a bit to see how other knitters knitted it.
