My Favourite Articles This Week

This embroidery of boot prints and paw prints in the snow is so magical.

Have you heard of Tyromancy, the practice of divination by… cheese?! Apparently it’s a very, very old practice.

These photos of hummingbirds!!!!

This was a wonderful read- how to save a sad, lonely, angry society (NYTime gift link)

This is what I’m leaning into on days when I don’t sleep well.

Also, how about listening to a forest?! So serene.

My Favourite Pins This Week

Easy Weeknight pasta recipe

This easy pasta idea is such a throwback, and I love it! Remember when you could get Bruschetta EVERYWHERE?!  I never see it on menus anymore, but as a pasta dinner, what a clever idea! Perfect for if you have some leftover chicken, or want to grab a bit of precooked chicken bits to throw in, for protein. Find the easy recipe here.

Easy Valentine Cookies

Okay, these are going to be the easiest cookies ever! If you want to make some cute cookies in a flash, this is a boxed cake mix with some food colouring mixed in. What a fun effect, right? Perfect for valentine’s day, but also could be customized for specific colours any time. I love this. Easy cookies for the win! Find the recipe and instructions right here.

Smoothie Recipe when you're getting a cold

It feels like everyone i know is a little under the weather- and I had a brutal head cold a few weeks ago, myself! My I recommend this smoothie, great for boosting immunity with vitamin C, lemon, and ginger? It also taste very tropical, so it’s a fun one, too! Find the recipe here (and if you don’t have manog kicking around, I left it out and it was still good!).

Valentine Crochet Pattern

How pretty is this crocheted heart with a daisy inside?! I think this is so pretty, and would be lovely as a little bunting, or even as applique elbow patches on a sweater! In a larger gauge, you could make two and have them be cute pot holders! Find the free crochet pattern over here.

Free Sewing Pattern Cube Zipper Pouch

This box pouch pattern looks amazing- zippered box pouches are SO useful for storage, and would be brilliant as a project bag, or a cosmetics bag, or storing leftover yarn, or…. whatever you can think of! Find the wonderful step-by-step tutorial for this zipper box pouch here.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends! It’s pretty warm here in Toronto for February, but we’ll be planning on doing some Valentine baking and cards for the kids’ classmates. I hope you are all keeping healthy and that the sun is shining where you are!

Those cookies are so pretty! I’ve made similar ones, by adding food colouring to regular sugar cookie dough (if you have basic ingredients but no cake mix).

Thanks for always sharing such interesting inspiring stories and crafts!

That’s such a good idea!! I don’t think it’s too hard to make sugar cookies from scratch, but I’m always so intrigued by box mix elevations! It’s the lazy baker in me.

Hi Julie, the cheese-reading and importance of art on perception were such interesting reads!

Btw, I shared your diy wedding blog post with my “baby” who is getting married in December. My 1st son found it useful in 2018 too. The vibe and organization tips are an excellent motivation and reminder to just have fun!

    Thank you!

    Oh Julie,
What a fiasco with the 2 different websites (full of pop up ads) & different # of spaces for granny square portion…to try to make the daisy heart

Oh no! I can’t control what other sites do with their ads, but I have an ad blocker extension on my browser, so I usually don’t see quite as many. If you google your browser name and “free ad blocker” it will provide a link to an extension that can help reduce the ads you get on some of those sites that have a LOT.
