Original Pattern: Moggies
Knitter Extraordinaire:Â Sachiko (Ravelry ID)
Mods:Â Using the child’s size mitten chart, Sachiko used it for the basis of this simple and chic sweater. More information can be found on her project page, here.
What Makes This Awesome: I love this sweater and wish it was already in my closet. What really makes it work are the proportions, keeping the wonderful chart at the hem of the sweater and the rest simple and solid. When using a whimsical and very detailed chart like this, it looks especially good in a simple colour palette. I love her choice of the eternally chic combination of black, white, and grey; but I think this could work in other colours as well, especially if you kept the white and grey.
Sachiko often does machine knitting, so this wasn’t entirely hand knit (and I so want to learn machine knitting! One day, when the kids are a little bit older), but you could duplicate the results entirely by hand. Â The proportions are especially good for mitten charts- if there is a stranded mitten design you particularly love, think about whether or not it could work in this same sort of style. Stranded designs are significantly less daunting when you know you only have to work them for part of the sweater!

Oh my goodness, I love love love this so much! Adorable!
I totally agree!!! How do I not have a cat sweater in my life?!
I love this sweater so much!! It’s so adorable, but super chic-I’d probably live in it!
I think if I knit this sweater I’d live in it, too- it would go with everything!
This sweater is so great! It’s kind of whimsical-chic, rather than crazy-cat-lady — which is also fine, but maybe less everyday-wearable.
You nailed it- whimsical-chic! That is the perfect description.
Can this be modified to fit a 10 year old?
Absolutely- you would need to use a sweater pattern that fits your ten year old, and can handle an inch or two ore (or fewer stitches), and then you’ll nee dot figure out which chart you can use to work with your sweater, keeping in mind you’ll need to adjust stitch count slightly to make it work.
Awesome ! How clever, and so beautiful. A brilliant idea you could duplicate with many pretty patterns. Love it !
I totally agree- I love sweaters that have some visual interest like this.
Oh, I’ve seen this on Pinterest! It’s so cool how she used that children’s pattern for her jumper.
That’s so cool you saw this on Pinterest! I love the design. And I definitely want to get a knitting machine!
Wow, this is one of the cleverest uses of colourwork I’ve seen! What a delightful idea!
I agree! I love the stranded design at the lower third of the sweater, and the rest simple and solid.
I’m not a cat person but this is fabulous!
So glad you love it even if you aren’t a cat person! I would love it even if it was dogs, too. I love other people’s dogs, but I’m definitely a cat person.
Love the kittens. Just checked some of the pattern writer’s other work – awesome!
Do I take it someone was distracting you around para #3?
Sigh. What is the point of spell check if it doesn’t give you the red squiggles to tell you when you are bleary eyed with fatigue that you need to get back there and set things right?! Sorry about that.
Perfect colors for this sweater!
I totally agree!! The simple palette keeps it from getting too busy.
This is right up there with the most fantastic sweaters I’ve ever seen. Excellent!
I love it too!!
A handknit cat sweater?? Why oh why is this not in my closet already?? Totally adorable!!
I had the exact same reaction when I saw this! I so love it.
Thank you for your kind words, Pat! I am so happy that you are inspired! I ve been planning to start sewing for couple of years now, but fruitless. For some reason my hands always reach for knitting or crochet. Knitting is the best therapy.
