Modification Monday: First Robin

The winner of the Bristol Ivy Knitting Outside the Box: Drape & Fold copy giveaway is Nancy! Thanks so much to everyone who commented on the blog and on Instagram.

And now, onto our beautiful modification today… can you tell I’m already excited for spring?!

Original Pattern: Bluebird of Happiness

Knitter Extraordinaire: Lori (Ravelry profile, Instagram)

Mods: Lori changed the solid bird shape pattern to customize for alonger, thinner shape, and robin details via intarsia. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: The original pattern is a cute basic bird shape, but I’m so impressed with the way Lori has changed it up! She knits a lot of adorable small toys and birds, it’s worth checking out some of the others. I was blown away by how realistic she’s made her robin look, all the details were carefully thought out, like the intarsia colouring, and the longer body.

The addition of the i-cord legs and crocheted feet details are a wonder touch, as well as the embroidered elements around the eyes. That’s part of the magic on knitting small toys- you can really make a huge difference in how professional they look in the small details. And the best thing is that because they are small, those extra details don’t take much time at all!

Thanks for highlighting my Pattern modification today. The eye of a Knitter sees more than the finished product. We Knitters interpret in 3-D; reading stitches and imagining our hands doing the work our own way.

What a great idea for the legs and feet! Chloe
