Modification Monday: Accidental Stripes

Original Pattern: A Cropped Sweater for Winter

Knitter Extraordinaire: Kat (Ravelry ID, Blog)

Mods: Modified the originally cropped sweater pattern to be hip length, and added in dramatic stripes and colour blocking at the sleeve caps. Project page with details can be found here.

What Makes This  Awesome: I love, love, love the stripes on this sweater. They are beautifully proportioned and even through the body, but the real magic is the sleeves. The blue sleeve caps give a great, graphic  move into wider stripes that decrease in width  as they move down the arm to the cuff.  Kat was very clever in changing how the stripes worked on the sleeves, as it gives the sweater a really modern effect, and with the blue sleeve caps, it keeps the stripe son the body from feeling too busy. It’s easily one of the best striped sweaters I’ve seen!

A great sweater! I just can’t get enough of stripes!

Love this! The original pattern is beautiful, but the length is something that would have to be very stylized to wear (at least it wouldn’t fit in with my day-to-day wear!) but this is so much more versatile! And the stripes! Also, with them getting narrower towards the wrist, I’ve actually heard that you should accentuate your wrists as often as you can, and this does so beautifully! 😀

I read her blog and let her know you featured her. I like that graphic decision on her sleeves.

You are so right – with the sleeve cap followed by the decreasing stripes, it prevents this from being some sort of basic boring striped sweater; classic with a modern twist!

Well done! Perfectly proportioned stripes for the intended wearer makes such a difference and takes a great eye and skill set. Love this. I’d like 2 please 🙂

Couldn’t agree more with you, I already fell in love with this version of the sweater the first time I saw it on Kat’s instagram. It’s a perfect striped sweater!
