Original Pattern: YinYang Kitty Ankle Socks
Knitter Extraordinaire: Dani (Ravelry ID, blog/podcast)
Mods:Â Added deeper ribbing at the ankle, changed the colouring and added instarsia face details to mimic a Siamese cat’s face. Project page can be found here, but more information can be found on her wonderful podcast, here.
What Makes This Awesome: Knitting AND a Kitten?! I know, your Monday just improved by leaps and bounds. That sweet kitty in the photo there is Teddy, Dani’s cat, and her mom has Teddy’s brother, Merlin. In honour of those feline brothers, Dani knit up the ankle sock pattern while modifying the cat colouring and adding intarsia face details to change the somewhat generic grey and black cat faces into a personalized project that looks so sweet, and even cuter than the original pattern! Wouldn’t it be great to knit a pair of these socks with custom colours to reflect your kitty? I have two cats, so I could do one sock with with a variegated black/brown to reflect my tabby, and the other a soft gingery orange to reflect my gigantic ginger fluffball. Even if you don’t have cats yourself, these would a perfect knitted gift idea for the cat lover in your life.

Oh my gosh, how I love these! And I am thinking the same thing: I should knit a pair that matches my 2 cats’ coloring; my black cat would be super easy, while my other guy is a black/brown/grey cat with Maine coon coloring so would be quite a bit more challenging. But what sweet socks they would be to wear! (I’m also thinking mittens, so more people would see them when I wear them.) >**<
So adorable, right?! I really liked the original pattern, but I saw these and my heart squealed. Now they are in my queue! Mittens are a brilliant idea, my friend.
Cheers,
Julie
Those are adorable!
So true! I think they are even cuter than the original!

These are genius!!! Sooooo adorable!
Hi Monica,
So true! I think the original pattern is pretty cute, but these are over-the-moon cute!
Cheers,
Julie
Perfect knitty-kitty combo! 🙂
I totally agree!! love that, knitty-kitty!
Those are certainly cute socks. I suppose if a knitter new to intarsia would like to get their feet wet in a small way, that would be project.
And thank you for the anniversary cheer. My husband didn’t say a peep about me picking up some yarn that day since it was a special occasion.
Hi Stefanie,
I agree, it would be a great starter intarsia project, and you could duplicate stitch the face details too. So cute!
Cheers,
Julie
So cute ! My daughter would love them. She is crazy about cats, but very allergic to them, so wearing them is the best she can do. These colours are lovely.
Hi Agnes,
I completely agree that the colours are perfection- the muted colours of the kitty faces needed a soft colour to compliment it, and it all works in these socks!
Cheers,
Julie
So cute. They’re in my Ravelry library and may well be the next socks I cast on!
Ooh, that’s awesome! These shorter socks are perfect for spring and summer, so good call!
Love the socks socks but Teddy’s pose and expression just slayed me. That photo pretty much made my day!
Oh yeah, that is the face of a cat that knows he rules the roost!
Cheers,
Julie
So, so adorable!!!! The photo of the cat is just precious 🙂
Hi Alina,
I completely agree, just the cutest photo in ages!
Cheers,
Julie
Really cute socks! But I have a question: how do you knit intarsia when you’re knitting in the round?
I would appreciate the help.
Thank you.
Hi Allison,
A great question! I googled, and I think these two are the most helpful:

These are absolutely the most adorable socks ever!
I completely agree, Jessica! 🙂
Oh, those are adorable! I love the little siamese kitty faces! And I love your idea of a mismatched pair to celebrate your beautiful kitties as well 😀
I added the pattern to the queue as soon as I saw this version- just so adorable!
Oh my gosh, yes! These are phenomenal and so clever! I’m not big into color work socks – afraid of tension – but man I would make these in a heartbeat if I was.
They are very tempting, aren’t they! If you wanted to give intarsia a try, a small project like this is a good place to start. lower stakes. 🙂
Cheers,
Julie
I am surprised you haven’t knit a pair yet Julie!
