Modification Monday: A Different Stream Socks

Modification Monday: A Different Stream Socks | knittedbliss.com

Original Pattern: Waimakariri

Knitter Extraordinaire: Virpi (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Virpi changed out the cable on the sock pattern for a twisted stitch design she found in a Japanese stitch dictionary.  Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: How many of us have thumbed through a stitch dictionary, feeling so inspired but not sure exactly how to use the stitch? Instead of using the original cable of the sock pattern, it was a stroke of genius for Virpi to play around with a different twisted stitch design, and follow the pattern for it to travel around the sock in such an interesting way. You could do the same thing- find a stitch with a similar stitch count (you could make small adjustments with framing stitches or in the body to compensate for an ‘almost’ stitch number), and substitute it in another pattern just like this- swap cables for lace, or twisted stitches for a textured stitch. So many possibilities!

What a pretty mod – and yes, I DO look through stitch dictionaries all the time (like, kind of obsessively) and then just cant seem to come up with ways to shape them into a pattern. So I end up with lots of pretty pretty swatches. 🙂
