Modification Monday: Fox Paws Cardi

Modification Monday: Fox Paws Cardi | knittedbliss.com

Original Pattern: Fox Paws

Knitter Extraordinaire: Anne (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Using the fascinating fox paws pattern, Anne used it as a motif for a cardigan for her granddaughter. Good details on how she created the sweater can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: The Fox Paws design is very unusual and intricate looking, and has huge impact on the original shawl. Using it on a smaller scale as a decorative detail on the round yoke and at the hem and cuffs highlights the unusual details of working the stitches, and the stripes on the round yoke set up the fox paw design perfectly. I’m so impressed with how balanced all those colours are in this amazing sweater!

Anne was previously featured on Modification Monday for these beautiful socks, too! You should check then out if you missed it before. Modification Monday: Fox Paws Cardi | knittedbliss.com

Incorporating the fox paws design into a cardigan is stunning. Anne is so clever!

That is truly stunning! I’ve had my eye on the fox paws pattern for so long (like, probably 70-80% of other knitters too? :)) It’s in my pinterest feed and ravelry – I keep telling myself it’s a pattern I am eventually going to sit down and work on, some snowy Sat afternoon. But – the colors of her sweater along with that gorgeous design – I am swooning.

This is so awesome! I bought Fox Paws with the intention of incorporating it into a knitted top but the pattern kicked my butt. It is very ingenious and well written but requires total concentration. I will have to try again after seeing this beautiful mod though!

That is impressive. Brilliant that she modified Fox Paws and the bees knees because it looks stunning all on its own. I am simply blown over.

How ambitious! That motif really makes the sweater very striking-I’m sure I wouldn’t have been brave enough to try something like this.

Wowee! Fox Paws is impressive enough knit into a scarf, but to modify it and size it correctly for a cardigan is truly amazing!

This has got to be one of the most beautiful knitted patterns ever. Oh how I wish my skills were up to it!

I love the idea of trying complex patterns on a smaller scale!
I realized when swatching a new to me stitch pattern that I usually ended up doing 2 repeats and that swatch ended up about an inch or two short of an adult hat…I now “swatch” in hat form, and when done, I have all my swatch info, have learned a new process or pattern and have a stack of hats by fall to drop off at the youth shelter. A win-win!
Now if Anne would wrote up her pattern and upscale this cardi to adult size ..hint hint 🙂
Thank you for sharing your skills Anne (and making this look do-able) and thank you Julie for this great Mod Monday choice!
