Modification Monday: Gnome Cowl

Original Patterns: Gnome Mittens and Haid

Knitter Extraordinaire: Matkailijakirppu  (Ravelry ID, blog)

Mods: Combining the Haid cowl pattern and the gnome design from the mitten pattern, Matkailijakirppu created this amazing reversible cowl with the original cowl design on one side and the stranded gnome design on the other. Details on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: I may have squealed when I saw this- it’s just so freaking awesome! The repeating gnomes look amazing in cowl form, and it’s worth clicking through to her project page, where you can see the other side of the cowl as well, with a whole other design.  The final picture in the series show exactly how she knit it to be reversible, so make sure you click on it for the full effect. So impressive, right? This idea has really sparked something for me- how fantastic to knit a cowl like this and use two different stranded designs that you love?! Two cowls for the knit of one!

One of the details that helps make the different designs work together  in the reversible cowl is to keep the colours similar for both sides. While the patterns are different, keeping the colours consistent on both sides keeps the cowl looking really cohesive.

Matkailijakirppu has been on Modification Mondays before, for her awesome Day of the Dead Socks! Check them out if you missed them the first time.

I love this and can think of a few folks who would love for me to knit one of these for them.

I am so sorry I have been such a blog buddy lately and haven’t commented yet. I read every post but have been so busy. I could use a bedtime story from Matt McC too!

Happy holidays to you and yours,
    A
