Modification Monday: Lillian Two

Original Pattern: Lillian

Knitter Extraordinaire: Mary (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Changed the edging, adjusted the fit to provide more coverage in the front, added afterthought pockets, and played with colourblocking. Great details, including full details on her afterthought pockets, can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: Mary has knitted this pattern before, so she was in a great position to play around with the details of this pattern and tweak it to be just the way she wanted. As the cardigan doesn’t button, she wanted more fabric on the front so that it could sometimes be pinned to overlap, which is a great idea for adding extra coziness to an open cardigan.

And can we talk about how fun the contrasting rubbing and edging is?! I love that Mary didn’t just go for the contrasting ribbing, but the little extra detail of the green on the edging of the cuffs, pockets, and collar really help make this look intentional and balanced, which can be tricky when using different colours of yarn on a single garment. It works especially well because of the blue and green additions echoing the same tones in the main colourway. Gorgeous!

Oh, I LOVE that green edging on the contrast cuffs and button band! How clever! And of course, add pockets to ALL THE SWEATERS!

the yarns she used are so gorgeous! It’s reminding me of the Comfort Fade cardigan, but I love how she kept to just the green and blue. And I do love afterthought pockets!

That choice of colours & colourblocking is so pretty! 🙂

Missed this one – glad I found it! Two major loves here – (1) more front coverage and (2) doing a change in ribbing color that is not expected (that is, the inevitable neutral) to one that is both colorful but not gaudy. The yarn looks great too!
