Modification Monday: Rebus Socks

Original Pattern:  Rebus Socks

Knitter Extraordinaire: Virpi (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Virpi changed the way the gusset fit on the sock, and added an instarsia moose! Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: It is always worth customizing the fit, especially if you know that the arches of your feet might require a little extra something in your sock pattern. It also gave her a few more rows to work the adorable moose chart into the socks, because just when you think these socks couldn’t be any cooler, there is a moose! I especially love that there is a moose only on one sock, not on both. It’s in the small details that a really extraordinary knit can happen, And I think Virpi achieved that with these socks. A great high contrast pattern, a custom gusset, and a tiny moose, just for fun. What could be better!

Hi Jacqueline, I totally agree. I haven’t tried stranded socks before, but these look incredible.

Hi Wanda, I love that wintery moose, too! Such a perfect little detail that really makes these socks extra special.

      HI Andrea,
I’m always worried about that, too! I find it easier with my winter boots, which have all this faux fur flocking on the inside, I feel like it’s a protective buffer for hand knit socks.

I’m not getting the emailed comments,so replying is weird today. But I agree, that tiny moose just makes those socks!

I totally agree, Agnes! And I bet they are toasty warm, too.

The original idea for a moose in my sock was actually given by the designer Anita herself, for she had written in her description of the pattern that:”maybe a still and silent moose is watching you among the trees.”
This pattern was part of Sock Madness 10, which was held in the spring of this year and our initial task for this pattern was to engineer a pair of socks from just 5 partial pictures of the sock; toe, cuff, heel and so on. The release of the full pattern was scheduled to happen a few days later than the start of the SM10 round. I decided to add the moose, because it was present in the forewords for the pattern pictures :o) You never know Sock Madness, there might have been a hidden moose somewhere, when the full pattern was revealed.
Thanks for your lovely comments about my socks!

It was clever of you to include it, such a great detail!
