Modification Monday: Sunny Chaika

Before we get into this ever-so-pretty mod, the winner of The Blue Brick Country House Knits Giveaway is…… Nadja! Congrats Nadja, I’ll be emailing you really soon! And thank you to everyone who entered, there were lots of comments and tags on both the blog post and the instagram post, whew!

Original Pattern: Chaika

Knitter Extraordinaire: Amalia (Ravelry ID)

Mods: Amalia chose to knit this top with short sleeves, cropped length, and the body as reverse stockinette. Details can be found on her project page, here.

What Makes This Awesome: Sometimes a simple modification can have a big impact, so I really want to focus on the reverse stockinette choice that Amalia made. I love how it looks, and it’s a brilliant solution for when a sweater pattern has a fit that you like, but you want to use a yarn that might have a little too much variegation for it to work in stockinette. Reverse stockinette has that gorgeous garter look and texture, but without the thickness  of garter knit fabric.

For Amalia’s yarn choice, it gives a lovely watercolour effect, and because she isn’t afraid of colour, goes for a bright, sunny yellow around the neckline. Perfect for spring and summers in cool places, a knit like this is surprisingly wearable. Ever notice how you wear colours in the summer that you wouldn’t wear in the winter? Now is the time! Summer knits are perfect for experimenting with a hit of something bright and unexpected. And maybe time to experiment with a larger gauge, reserve stockinette take on a comfy knit?

An interesting mixture of watercolor pastels and a pop of bright yellow. She looks just so happy with her new knit, and no wonder.

such pretty colors! that is a perfect summer sweater, and I agree that the reverse stockinette is a perfect way to show of that beautiful pastel variegated yarn – no odd pooling phenomenon shows in it that way. I love that pop of yellow, so cheerful.
