Pin Ups and Link Love: My Favourite Things This Week

My Favourite Articles and Links This Week

The librarian who saved Timbuktu’s cultural treasures from Al-Qaeda is a wonderful, fascinating article- that guy is a hero, and this should be a movie.

You’ve heard of Mixed Martial Arts, right? Here’s Mixed Martial Arts & Crafts. So. Damn. Funny.

A museum in Russia tried to play an April Fool’s Day joke, and ended up employing a cat.

I loved these quotes from women on love, life, and being the person you are meant to be.

My Favourite Pins This Week

You guys know how I adore grilled cheese in all it’s various forms, so you’ll have to forgive me two different takes on this treat this week!

Pin Ups and Link Love: Cinnamon Grilled Toast with Chocolate | knittedbliss.com

I absolutely love buttered toast with cinnamon sugar, and this decadent treat takes all of 5 mins to put together and is better and more satisfying than any chocolate bar. Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Bacon Mac and Cheese Melt | knittedbliss.com

This bacon Macaroni and cheese melt is utterly decadent, and the perfect solution to leftover mac and cheese. I haven’t had this yet, but man oh man, do I ever want to try it! Pinterest link is here, and the original recipe post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: DIY Holographic Vase | knittedbliss.com

I love this holographic vase DIY- it reminds me of that similar glaze effect you see on some old decorative ceramics. This looks so pretty and fresh for spring! Pinterest link is here, and the original DIY post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Easy Knitted Sock | knittedbliss.com

The dynamic duo of Arne & Carlos have a great tutorial on how to knit a super easy sock with an afterthought heel. Have you tried a sock with an afterthought heel before? If you like your knitting on the mindless/zen side, then this is perfect. Pinterest link is here, and the original post is here.

Pin Ups and Link Love: Japanese Cat Cards | knittedbliss.com

I’m completely smitten with these adorable Japanese cat playing card letterpress illustrations, and after much hunting, it turns out these are a desk of playing cards- they are postcards! The illustrations are so sweet, if they did make them as a deck of playing cards, I would definitely order them in a heartbeat. Pinterest link is here, and the original post is here (but in Japanese).

This week passed by in a blink for me- how is it already Friday? I could have sworn it was only Tuesday. Oh well. Don’t forget that today is the start of the Instagram #craftyblisschallenge!  Even if you don’t have Instagram, you can click that link any time and check out the photos people are posting. I hope you’ll join us!

Oh man… so many of my favorite things! Grilled mac and cheese sandwich? With grilled chocolate and cinnamon/sugar sandwich for dessert? A perfect lunch! those cards with the kitties are just too adorable. And on the afterthought heel – it’s the only way I have been able to make socks, so if any knitters out there have still not been able to really figure out the heel-turn, like me, the afterthought heel is a total breeze and makes knitting socks really fun, as you don’t have to break up the pattern you are working on halfway through. Have a great weekend!!

Okay but I’m going to need to try both of those grilled cheese sandwiches, because they look amazing (I’m not keen on calling them grilled cheese, though, thanks to a hilarious Reddit post from a few years ago, that’s quite hilarious – it’s great for a laugh, but has foul language https://www.reddit.com/r/grilledcheese/comments/2or1p3/you_people_make_me_sick ). I’ve been meaning to try the mac and cheese one, just have been too lazy to do it!
I’ve not tried an afterthought heel, and I’ve meant to, but I’ve a feeling it wouldn’t fit too well. For some reason, it doesn’t seem like it would have enough room, and I’m blessed with large feet, ha. xD

I love your links! From the quotes page I went to a different quotes page and came across this one that I love / struggle with:

    On finding balance:

Don’t ever confuse the two, your life and your work. That’s what I have to say. The second is only a part of the first… There are thousands of people out there with the same degree you have; when you get a job, there will be thousands of people doing what you want to do for a living. But you are the only person alive who has sole custody of your life. Your particular life. Your entire life. Not just your life at a desk, or your life on the bus, or in the car, or at the computer. Not just the life of your mind, but the life of your heart. Not just your bank account, but your soul…People don’t talk about the soul very much anymore. It’s so much easier to write a résumé than to craft a spirit. But a résumé is cold comfort on a winter night, or when you’re sad, or broke, or lonely, or when you’ve gotten back the chest X ray and it doesn’t look so good, or when the doctor writes “prognosis, poor.”

OMG, I wish I’d seen that chocolate sandwich before I went to the grocery store. That’s going to be a thing sometime this week for sure.

What a roundup! That chocolatey, delicious grilled cheese looks amazing and those cards are the cutest!!!!!

Ok, that video is really funny. And reading the article about the cat (so funny) led me to an article on a UK store that decided to implement a quiet hour each week to help autistic children: wonderful idea.
