Review: Brooklyn Tweed Capsule Collection

Brooklyn Tweed’s latest offering is a beautiful capsule collection entirely designed by the very talented Olga Buraya Kefelian. This collection has 8 patterns with a lot of diversity in them- a pullover, poncho,  cardigan, dress, cowl, fingerless mitts, hat, and a lace wrap- you can check out the full lookbook here, or view them on Ravelry here. Olga’s knits feature a lot of clean lines that draw inspiration from architecture and art, with each one does feel like  a mini masterpiece.

Here are my favourite four from the collection:

Apex

A stunning, high-drama cardigan with lots of drape and a split v at the nape of the neck. The worsted- weight cardigan is worked flat from the bottom up, and is all about the angles and asymmetrical hem. Design is fully charted.

You Should Totally Knit This If: You love lace and cables together, have no problem with charts, and can handle when you need to decrease in lace stitch.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: You aren’t sure how you feel about taking on a more advanced knit, or if you wanted to watch anything with subtitles while knitting this. Although the sleeves should be an easy bit!

Cusp

This worsted weight poncho/pullover is a great layering piece for the cooler months. Worked from the center out for each side, it’s unique construction and gorgeous cables create a beautiful design that is sure to get compliments.

You Should Totally Knit This If: You love cables,  knitting from the center out even at large circumferences, and wearing ponchos.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: The idea of knitting (or wearing) a large knitted circular garment isn’t appealing to you.

Jujika

The fingering-weight Jujika Cowl features ultra modern colourwork that is sure to look good on everyone. It’s long enough to be looped around the neck twice for added warmth, or worn singly as a striking accessory.  There are two options for closing the fold, so it can be more advanced for a seamless look (grafting) or a simpler bind off (joinery). Instructions for both are included in the fully-charted pattern.

You Should Totally Knit This If:  You love modern colourwork motifs and knitting in the round. And if you are a cowl lover, this gives you the best of both the long cowl and short cowl worlds!

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If:  stranded designs are not something you enjoy, you never wear cowls, or if modern motifs are not your thing.

Tetrapods

This fingering- weight scarf/wrap  comes with instructions for three different sizes so you can customize just how big you want it to be. Featuring an intriguing geometric lace motif, the pattern is knitted on both right and wrong side rows, and is fully written and charted.

You Should Totally Knit This If: You adore lace, especially lace scarves and wraps that are rectangular. You don’t worry about needing ‘resting rows’ on the wrong side of your knitting.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: You are looking for something to knit while watching tv. Or if you find knitting rectangular anything too repetitive.

It’s been a busy week here at Knitted Bliss- don’t forget to check out this weeks’ Modification Monday,  the awesome goodies from the Meet the Sponsors post, or the giveaway for a Laura Nelkin ornament kit from the Holiday Knitting Roundup!

It is a gorgeous collection, isn’t it?!! I never wear poncho style sweaters but I had to buy the Cusp pattern — I’m willing to change my fashion principles for it!

I agree with Onkuri. I’m not a poncho person, but Cusp is awfully tempting. I really love Jujika, though. In a pair of colours I didn’t personally loathe, I think that would be super awesome. That one will be going in the queue for sure.

Ooo, Tetrapods is pretty! Though having clicked through to view the whole collection, I have to say that I’m in love with the dress. It looks so stylish & comfy…something to bookmark for a future where I’m no longer breastfeeding. 😉

Hope these last couple weeks of your pregnancy go well, Julie! I’m sure you’re all looking forward to meeting your little boy.

    Oh! Stunning pieces!

So many great pieces in this collection. I’m seriously considering casting on for Cusp because it’s unlike anything I’ve ever knit before and I hope it would have a Veronika (by Cocoknits) affect. Perfect drape, casual elegance a show stopper!

I love this collection so much, I had to queue Apex as soon as I saw it 😀

This is a beautiful collection, and unlike the other BT collections, it will be available as a book. Beautiful and modern designs, I love your whole selection and am off to check the other models. Thanks for sharing it, I had only seen teasers up till now.

Just saw this cookbook yesterday and, wow, what shapes! Per usual, your review is super timely and I love the scarves/wraps you pulled out. They are super eye-catching and they were my favorite pieces as well 🙂 Happy (almost) Thanksgiving!

. . . that would be “lookbook” not “cookbook” . . . gotta love autocorrect!

I am on the lookout for that book : )

There are some great designs in this publication. I haven’t tried any of BT patterns yet.
