Review: Take Heart Collection

Pom Pom Quarterly has just released their first capsule collection,  Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, designed by Fiona Alice. The collection features 11 accessory patterns that are perfect for chilly weather. The collection is available both in print and as e-book.

I’m a big fan of accessory collections that stay within a season- it makes for a cohesive, practical design aesthetic. This whole collection was so appealing to me because in the cold weather, every single one of these patterns would be so wonderful to wear right now! I’ll review four of my most favourite patterns from the collection, although it was hard to pick just four- I would wear/knit all of these designs.

Martinique Beach

This beautiful worsted weight stranded cowl is knit in the round with four different colours, and can worn looped around the neck once for dramatic effect, or twice for extra warmth.

You Should Totally Knit This If: You love colourwork, dramatic cowls, and aren’t afraid of provisional cast ons or grafting.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: you never wear cowls, or aren’t a fan of colourwork- although imagine what this could look like in monochromatic shades of grey and white….

Caswell Bay Hat

This DK weight hat features twisted stitches and an asymmetrical cabled arrow design, and the instructions are both fully written and charted. And the collection also features a pattern for matching fingerless mitts!

You Should Totally Knit This If: You love working twisted stitches, and are looking for a hat design that is both eye catching and a little more challenging.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: You were looking for a nice, mindless knit that you could just relax with. The instructions and chart are very straightforward, but you’ll need to keep an eye on the pattern.

Three Cliffs

A DK weight wrap that is perfect for chilly days. The simple design (written, not chartered) is fully reversible arrow design of ribbing and garter.

You Should Totally Knit This If: You have been looking for a shawl to knit that is unfussy and perfect for casual, everyday living.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: You are easily bored with ribbing. Because there is indeed a lot of ribbing.

Queensland Beach

A beautiful worsted weight cabled headband that is perfect for keeping your ears warm in the cold weather. And you can’t ask for a faster knit!

You Should Totally Knit This If: You love cables, headbands, and having toasty warm ears on windy days.

You Should Definitely Not Knit This If: You aren’t into cables, or if the provisional cast on and grafting will put you off. Although in a headband, it is a very small amount of grafting.

I recommend checking out the full  Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey collection– it is full of toasty warm knits that are perfect for cold weather, and possibly even for a quick gift knit before the holidays, too!

It is a lovely collection. This cowl is gorgeous, but as you say, a bit intimidating if you ´re not familiar with colorwork. I also love the super long legwarmers.

This is a wonderful collection! You are right, it is nearly impossible to choose a favourite! And thus my “must-knit” list grows.

What a lovely collection of simple quick knits!!! The textured hat is my favorite! What a stitch definition!

I love that Three Cliffs wrap so much! The whole collection looks great-I might have to make those long legwarmers to wear under dresses, too!

Wow. These are all so gorgeous! I definitely need to hunt down a copy, because I don’t often see an entire collection that I want to knit every item from!

Oooh, most headbands are kind of boring-ish but that one is gorgeous. Checking out the rest of the collection now!

So many lovely designs! Hats are not that useful to me, since I live in a warm climate, but they are lovely. I like Three Cliffs and Queensland Beach – I love oversized garments nowadays ☺thanks for sharing!

Oh, I thought Queensland Beach was the oversized cardigan the model is wearing! Oops!

  10. I’ve been swooning over the cowl for a few days now … but don’t know if I would ever wear it here in Mississippi! 🙁
